Why a pneumotach and not a turbine?
A pressure-differential pneumotach has no moving parts in the airstream: nothing to spin up, stick or wear, and the response is fast enough to resolve peak flow and the first 100 ms of the effort where back-extrapolation is decided. That is what lets SpiroWright grade every effort to ATS/ERS 2019 rather than approximate it.
